
The Bashundhara Foundation, associate organization of Bashundhara Group (BG), country’s leading business conglomerate, distributed free books and stipend to over 1000 bright students of 19 schools and eight madrasas of the upazila.
The 9th annual stipend and fourth Islamic books distribution programme of Bashundhara Foundation (BF) was held at Sobhania Islamia Alim Madrasa ground of the upazila Saturday.
Advisor to BG, also the secretary of BF Moynal Hossain Chowdhury said, “The country’s top-ranking industrialist and Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan is working relentlessly for the development of this area.”
He added: “The stipend for the brilliant students of the area has been introduced with his sincere effort.”
He also expressed hope that the initiative would lead the students in concentrating competition to do well in the examination.
At present, the top 10 students of a class are being given the stipend and the range will be extended in future, he added.
Urging the students to keep themselves away from drugs, he said you should be careful in selecting friends.
Praising the contribution of BG Chairman in alleviating poverty, Chairman of the upazila Sirajul Islam said, “The interest-free loan of BG is playing an important role in alleviating poverty in the area and the students are also being encouraged by the stipend and free books giving programme.”
Some 1,080 students from class vii to class x of 19 schools and eight madrasas were given stipend and one piece of Bokhari Sharif, a book of hadith.
Each institution was also given one set of Bokhari Sharif.
With Principal Ruhul Amin in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by Assistant General Manager of BG Maimun Kabir, Executive Engineer Shafiqul Islam and In-charge of BG Microcredit Programme Mosharraf Hossain.
