
Bashundhara Group (BG), country’s leading business conglomerate, Saturday distributed donations to the family members of Hazrat Ali, who sacrificed his life while trying to save two women from hijackers and bus driver Badar Ali, who was burnt alive during hartal.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed on behalf of Bashundhara Group handed over the cheques of Tk 2 lakh each to Samla Sultana, wife of Hazrat Ali and Hawa Begum, wife of Badar Ali at DMP headquarters at noon.
The function was also attended, among others, by Editor-in-Chief of banglanews24.com Alamgir Hossain, Editor of Daily Daily Kaler Kantha Editor Emdadul Haque Milon, Editor of Daily Bangladesh Pratidin Noeem Nizam, acting Editor of the Daily Sun Jamilur Rahman, BG chairman’s chief adviser Mahbub Morshed Hasan, BG Media Advisor Mohammad Abu Tayeb, senior officers of police and journalists of East West Media Group.
On May 14, Bashundhara Group chairman and also Honorary Consul General of Ukraine in Bangladesh Ahmed Akbar Sobhan made the announcement of financial assistances at his corporate office.
On May 19, the family members of three victims and Mahin Sarowar Megh, the five-year-old son of the slain journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi were received donation.
BG donated Tk 15 lakh to Megh and Tk 1 lakh to National Press Club staff Sohel, who has lost both of his kidneys.
For Megh, the money will be kept as fixed-deposit and he will get Tk 15,000 per month. He can withdraw the total money when he will be at the age of 20/22.
The other recipients are family members of senior correspondent Bibhash Chandra Saha of the English Daily the Independent who was killed in a road accident and photo journalist Shahiduzzaman Titu, who killed in a city bus accident. They received Tk 2 lakh each.
University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman AK Azad Chowdhury and Chairman of East West Media Group Mostafa Kamal Mohiuddin handed over the cheques to the family members of the victims and Megh at conference room of Media House in city’s Bashundhara residential area.
